Eco-Schools

Eco-Council met today to take part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch. We will be out counting the birds in our school grounds over the next couple of weeks and recording data for the RSPB. #bigschoolsbirdwatch

After collecting all the results of our bird survey, we have successfully improved the biodiversity in our school garden since last year – well done VPS!

Join us and say NO to idling! VPS are launching a No Idling campaign to improve the quality of air around our school and protect our health. Our P7’s and Eco-Council have been getting involved in the project by surveying the traffic outside the school gates in the morning. As part of this project, we will be promoting ‘No idling outside our school’ where vehicle owners are encouraged to turn their engines off while they wait, particularly during pick up and drop off times. #noidling

North Down and Ards In Bloom Tallest Sunflower competition

We would like to enter our fantastic pupils into the Sunflower competition. Each child will receive their very own packet of seeds to plant.

All you need to do is take good care of your sunflower over the Summer and you should measure its height during the last week of August using a tape measure and the tallest sunflower will win. Details have been uploaded below.

The attached form must be printed, filled in and submissions must be received by the 1st of September and entry is free using the entry form.

Many thanks

Our Environmental Review

This year our Eco Council will be working towards our Green Flag accreditation renewal - you can find out more on the Eco-Schools website here: https://www.eco-schoolsni.org/cgi-bin/greeting?instanceID=1.

Our representatives have lots of wonderful ideas. As a key part of the Eco-Schools process is involving our entire school and wider community, we will be sharing updates on our involvement with Eco-Schools and what to expect over the coming months via regular updates in our school newsletter, website and social media.

Our new Eco-Council met this week to carry out an environmental review of our school! Here is a summary of our findings:
